Why does the Bible say that we are gods?

What does the Bible mean, ‘You are gods’?
One of the pet phrases in scripture that world religions use to support the various doctrines claiming that humans can become divine is ‘you are gods’. This is found several places in scripture and in context the intent is clear. However, this can and often is twisted into unbiblical meanings and used to confuse those who value the Bible as authoritative. This is used to persuade people that the Bible supports their ‘you are god’ theory. The first passage we will examine is Exodus 7:

1 So the LORD said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

I won’t spend much time on this passage because the intent is quite obvious. The KJV words it, “I have made thee a god to Pharaoh”. Pharaoh was the highest god in ancient Egypt’s pagan religious world. They had gods for everything. Some gods had higher powers than others. The Egyptians believed that it was necessary to appease all the gods so that their wives could be fertile, their crops would yield harvest, the rains would come in season, and so on. Many of the plagues God sent were specifically targeted against the gods of Egypt. Pharaoh went down to greet the Nile floods each year and honor this god. God sent Moses to meet him and to turn the water to blood. This was a direct assault against this false god that Pharaoh was honoring. One of their gods was a frog, so God sent a plague of millions of frogs. Because Pharaoh thought he was a god, Moses was like a rivaling god against Pharaoh. To yield to Moses was to admit before his people that Pharaoh wasn’t the strongest god. God said in Exodus 9:14 that the plagues against Pharaoh’s gods were meant to show that there was none like God. It was not to show that Moses was a god. Moses was not a god. However, to the pagan worshipping Pharaoh he was a god. It was only in Pharaoh’s eyes that Moses was considered divine.

Gods will die like men?
Now look at Psalm 82:

1 God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods.
2 How long will you judge unjustly, And show partiality to the wicked? Selah
3 Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.
5 They do not know, nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable.
6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.
7 But you shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes.”

This passage requires a little more thought, but it is still quite clear. In the context of this passage it is clear that the ‘gods’ are not called so because they are divine, but because they are set up to be judges. God established His leadership to judge and do justice among the people. This has nothing to do with divinity. We know this because God follows up by saying, “You are gods and children of the Most High, but you shall die like men”. Look at the entire context of this passage. God is judging the judges He has ordained because they became arrogant and unjust. In stead of using the power God had given them to defend the helpless and needy, they used it for greed and gain. They afflicted the needy and gave favor to the wicked. Jesus used this same passage against the Pharisees. They thought they were above the people. The passage declares that these ‘gods’ are wicked, without understanding, walking in darkness, have an unstable foundation, and they will die like all men do. This doesn’t sound much like the claims of divinity the ‘Christian’ false teachers and other religions proclaim it to be.

Gods are an abomination
There is one last reference to gods I would like to bring to light. Look at Isaiah 41

20 That they may see and know, And consider and understand together, That the hand of the LORD has done this, And the Holy One of Israel has created it.
21 ” Present your case,” says the LORD. “Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob.
22 “Let them bring forth and show us what will happen; Let them show the former things, what they were, That we may consider them, And know the latter end of them; Or declare to us things to come.
23 Show the things that are to come hereafter, That we may know that you are gods; Yes, do good or do evil, That we may be dismayed and see it together.
24 Indeed you are nothing, And your work is nothing; He who chooses you is an abomination.

In this passage, God is challenging those who call themselves gods. God challenges them, if they are gods, present your case. Show us what will happen in the future. Show us the past. Declare what is to come. What are the purposes of God? They should know since they are gods. God challenges them to show their power since they think they are gods. Then God follows up by saying, “you are nothing; your work is nothing; and he who chooses you is an abomination”. That is a very divisive statement. God declares that anyone who chooses these who claim to be gods is an abomination to Himself, the only true God.

There are only two ways that we can be so-called gods. When we stand in the place of authority that God has ordained us to  hold, we are gods in the sense that we represent Him or that we are reflecting God to others. We are all created to reflect God’s glory, but we also have all sin and fallen short of that glory. We are nothing, but in His will and by His authority, we are instruments for His purposes. The other way we are gods is found in the beginning of scripture. In Genesis 3:22, God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil”. We are like God in the sense that we know right from wrong. Satan promised Eve that she would be like God. It was a half-truth. She was like God only in that she could identify good and evil. Sin has plagued mankind since that time. If someone claims that we are a god in any other context is a false statement and a false god. Satan’s lie is still the same – you will be like God. Man’s pride believes the lie because he does not want God, rather he wants to be god.

In each passage where the Bible refers to man as gods, it is judgment. Each time God is either challenging them, judging them or judging those who choose to align with them. It is ironic that other religions try to use the Bible to persuade by using the very passages that condemn them. If someone would just take the time to read the surrounding passages in context they would clearly see that most false teachers contradict their own doctrine with the scriptures they twist.

In Conclusion:
Look at Romans 1

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Just because someone claims to be wise does not make them wise. Wisdom based on the world will fail. Jesus warned that just because someone comes in His name does not mean that He sent them. Preachers claiming Jesus’ name are deceivers and anti-Christs if they are contradicting His word. When someone reshapes God into the image of corruptible man, the Bible says that they have become fools. If the Bible calls them fools, how can we allow them to be teachers of foolish doctrine within the church? If anyone teaches doctrine that says God is like man or man is like or can be like God, the Bible says that they have already rejected the truth and are not worshipping God, but are worshipping the creation of God – which is idolatry. If God has said that He has given them up, we should not be afraid to expose them. How people respond to false teaching reveals who is seeking God and who loves the lie.

It is the responsibility of every believer to uphold the truth so that each person can make a clear choice. If someone is deceived, it should be a knowing choice to reject the scriptures. We can’t make people want God, but we can uphold His truth so that people can see what choice they are making.

  1. Imagine if individual human beings did truly consider themselves gods? They would treat their bodies and souls with great reverence. They would love one another as God loves us. Great compassion, but also great freedom, would abound. The compassion would not impede on others free will. It would actually be very beneficial to humankind if people did view themselves as such.

    • You are mistaken. There have been many people throughout the years who have viewed themselves as gods. Feeding their egos did not make them more compassionate and loving, but more self-serving and arrogant. Even in modern history, a few names quickly come to mind. Kim Jong Il, the North Korean dictator who recently died believed he was a god. He oppressed the people and demanded reverence. His son holds similar views and from all outward appearances, appears to be worse than his father. Jim Jones, the founder of the infamous Jonestown cult is another example. He started off as a preacher, but when he began to shift into believing he was a god, he became very oppressive. The happy culture of Jonestown was transformed into an oppressive cult where Jones demanded worship. When his people began abandoning him, all hell broke loose.

Look at the Caesars of Rome. They believed they were gods, as did the Pharaohs, and many cults.

Your assumption is flawed to the core. When egos are exalted, it always leads to selfishness and contention. Because man is selfish by nature, self-exaltation does not lead to harmony. History has proven this true at every opportunity.

      • This is so true. That’s why men suffer today because of their negative thoughts and to think that we humans are GOD’S are really an abomination to THE MOST HIGH GOD, creator of heavens and earth and all that’s within. I believe this is possibly the ONE SIN THAT GOD DOESN’T FORGIVE AND IT’S BELIEVING THAT WE ARE A GOD OURSELVES. IT’S AN ABOMINATION AND THE PENALTY IS DEATH.

  2. Hi, I like your message on here. Im not particularly christian. Or im very christian depending on where you are looking from, but it is obvious it is like this. Many christians for some reason will not see it like this, why, i dont know, well i would like to say that i actually know, but ignorance is not something id like to tackle right now. As you said, you are only god, when you stand in the place of natural authority which is god itself, heaven. Not in the sence bloated, but in the sence deflated. Id like to chat with you, sometime. Send me a mail if you like. What I would like is clarification, or some insight into the problem of not reading the bible properly and how you tackle this in your life, people thinking your are satan if you actually think that you can be god, or infact is god. Maybe it is just a few, but im guessing not.

Well it made me content to find proper thinking among so much “christian” nonsence.

    • Thanks, Adam. I believe much of the confusion comes from trying to fit scripture into our will instead of seeking God to open our eyes and understanding. 3. Thank you Eddie S for posting this! I recently had a conversation with a gentleman who continued to insist that I was a god and he argued with me for two hours about humans having the ability to “tap into” being gods and the like. He also tried to tell me that Jesus Christ was just like all of us but that he “knew” who he was and therefore became well known for his ability to “tap into” his powers. The conversation truly broke my heart because I know that many around the world are subscribing to this belief and if not for God bringing them to the knowledge of the Truth they will forever be lost. I had my own reasons for discounting his statements which included the fact that throughout the bible God continuously says that there is no one BUT Him. Also that Jesus Christ was clear in stating that no one comes to the Father but through Him!

I really appreciate you for posting this because it further gave me clarification on the scriptures that this young man tried to use to validate his point and just as you said he continued to try and use scriptures from the bible. Be blessed!

    • Yes, it is sad that so many of these doctrines are both taught and believed. I had a conversation with someone who insisted that God used faith to create, and we have the same power as God. To that I said, “Create something from nothing. Anything.” He used a lot of double-talk, but couldn’t seem to see his own contradictions.

  4. You are mistaken. We are ALL gods. The Illuminati, and Freemasons created Christianity/Catholicism to keep the sheeple from leaning the truth. I do not speak of lies. I speak from my holy spirit as it is not fair how all Christians have lost there soul. Look around you and open your eyes. Start to see the Pyramids, Suns, Winged Disks. They Symbols of TRUTH are all around you. I come bearing the biggest revelations! GOD is within us all. His light can shine bright through you to ILLUMINATE everyone around you. This is your warning. This is the path of TRUTH. Genesis states “God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was VOID and without form”. What did god create? POTENTIAL! —>BIBLE = Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth the answers are in front of you but you choose to take things literally. Jesus said —->”I will speak to you in PARABOLS, i will speak things that you will not understand” He never said never. The SYMBOLS its all in the SYMBOLS. THE ELITE ARE CONTROLLING YOU NOT TO SEE!!!! “GODS” – US we can be good or bad….but we reap what we sow. You dont have to take my word for this, do YOUR search and let your SPIRIT tell you. I speak of not one lie one contradiction. You (religion) has been brainwashed and it is quite sad. This is my mission from “GOD” to show everyone the path. We can do GREAT things and make this place truly a better place. Do you have FAITH in GOD? This is your time to prove it. He is watching, He is waiting. Do not turn your back on him.

    With love and LIGHT

    • I consulted the Holy Spirit and He said you are wrong. Here are few answers for you to churn on:
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 Corinthians 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Your ‘illumination’ disagrees with the prophets whom God used to pen the scriptures; therefore, you are listening to spirits that are not of God. Personal revelation that disagrees with what has clearly been revealed through those we know were prophets cannot be of God, for the scripture also says, “God is not the author of confusion.”

As far as ‘the elite controlling me’, I look up and only see one above me. Christ. This also agrees with scripture – the head of every man is Christ. No one is dictating to me what to teach. This comes through personal study and my fellowship with the Lord. None of the studies I have posted came from anyone other than my personal time with the scriptures and spending time with the Lord.

A hierarchical system can be used to manipulate the masses, but this also is unbiblical, for the head of every man is Christ alone. Jesus Himself taught that the world systems try to make men great by becoming lords over those under them, “But it shall not be so with you.” (See Matthew 20:25 and Mark 10:42) Counterfeit Christianity doesn’t nullify true Christianity. True Christianity has one Lord – Christ. Every person has a calling and a place in the body (church), but none are greater than the others. The foundation of Christ is level ground – regardless of our gifts and calling. The preacher and the layman (which is also an unbiblical concept) are on the same level. No one is higher than others.

Also, as far as being gods, the original lie was, “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). The fall of Satan was, “I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:14). The lie hasn’t changed, and it still lures those who pursue pride rather than seek the Lord. And everyone who tried to become a god fell. Nothing has changed. The lie still deceives. The trap still captures those who desire self-exaltation.

Here is how to be exalted: Matthew 23:12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

The Lord exalts. Self-exaltation only leads to a fall.

  5. Hi.

the question i have is, since we are children of God, doesn’t that make us “gods” or at the least “gods in the making” if we are in Christ? We are striving to be like Christ to be part of his body, being godly. He lives in us right? 2 Peter 1:3-4 as reference.

    • In Isaiah, The Lord says, “I am the LORD your God… there is no other god before Me, neither shall there be any after Me.” There is only one God. We are called children by adoption and heirs to inherit His kingdom. 2 Peter 1 explains that we are partakers of His nature. We become like Christ by receiving His righteousness, but as the Bible says, we do not have our own righteousness.

Abraham is the best example to understand this. The Bible says that Abraham believed God, and he was credited with righteousness. This is explained several times in the New Testament, but the best example is in 2 Corinthians where the Bible says, Jesus became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. He was credited with our sins, and we are credited with His righteousness. His did not lose His divine nature by crediting His good to us, and we don’t become divine because we received His righteousness. The Apostle Paul put it this way, “Not having my own righteousness…but the righteousness that is from Christ.” We are accounted as righteous because we put our trust in Christ. We are God dependent, not divine or good in ourselves. We are adopted and treated as a heir, even though we are not righteous by nature. We are dependent upon His nature, His righteousness, and His power.

    • Sorry that I wasn’t able to give scripture references, since I am not at my computer. If you want specific scriptures, reply and I’ll give you the exact verses when I get to my computer.

  6. Amen my brother! I just heard this today: Some guy told me he was a God, and he was christian. This is a heretic and it is not biblical, we are all humans created in Gods image right. If we were Gods, how could we live in sin, and why would we need to be filled with the Spirit of God, if we was Gods? I don’t like these kind of discussions, so much heretic teachings around.. I don’t like that, because many people follow it..

    • I’m surprised at how many buy into that teaching. I had a guy once tell me that we are gods and have the same power as God. He said, “Just as God said, ‘Let there be’ we can say, ‘Let there be’ and create anything we can imagine. To that I said, “Create something. Speak anything into existence.” Then the double talk began. It’s nothing but the power of self-deception.

  7. So glad I read this…you summed up everything the holy spirit was telling me was wrong with what someone was telling me recently and gave me the Scripture to back it up. This is a very scary misconception that is being used to try to discredit the very foundations of the word of God, thank you for providing the textual understanding so that I can articulate in future. I love the term ‘counterfeit Christian’ that you used…yes there seem to be many misleading the flock.

  8. I have not met one Christian who honors Jesus or God.

Jesus tells how to pray to God.

And not one Christian follows this.

God in the christian bible helps his people mass murder, rape, pillage, commit slavery, just to point out the tip of this pandora..

If one would read the bibile cover to cover then it is clear that this book is evil.

    This is not love.

    • I find it ironic how atheists are so quick to point out the atrocities that are done in the name of religion, yet they are so blind to the atrocities done in the name of atheism. In the name of atheism, Stalin murdered more than 17 million people. Communist China – based on atheism – has killed more than 23 million people. Hitler killed 17 million Jews, and that doesn’t include the non-Jews he killed.

I believe this confirms the Bible’s claim that the heart of man is desperately wicked. Whether man is using religion or using non-religion, he is evil and will kill to further his own interests. There must be a change of natures. This is the heart of the message of the Bible – that God gives us a new nature while taking away our old sinful nature. Religion lived out through human nature can be just as wicked as atheism.

      • and I find it funny how you just assumed he is an atheist and that you people can never admit that the Old Testament is not righteous which shows me that you do not have understanding of what is right and wrong instead you just blindly accept it as being godly. Your in denial and from what appears to be that you support the very contradictory thing called love. You just used an excuse from someone’s error to support your stupid defensive argument when it is the same evil Jehovah made. Open your eyes mate

        • Firstly, It is fairly easy to spot an atheist ij conversation about the Lord or the Bible. They all refer to the same scriptural passages to defend their false rigbteousness and self-exalting indignation. ClIming that the God of the Old Testament is a megalomaniacal bully and such drivel.
But, that being said, God made it very clear to all people that He would not tolerate any form of idolatry or would not suffer anyone to meddle with His Creation. People chose to go against God’s Will and so, reap the devastated harvest of their iniquity.
Challenging God is folly. Much like standing inside the cone of an active volcano and daring it to erupt.
Humanity has proven that it is not capable of ‘godhood’, much less anything else that is good, without the Help of God. Everything we create is used to destroy, even if unintentionally.
The OLNY way to succeed in this life we are given is to submit to the will of God and pray for the Guidance of the Holy Spirit. “Through God all things are possible”
Jesus wasn’t just some “charlatan” who conned people into submitting to a lie to gain control over them.He IS the everlasting Son of God and the Word by which Life is given from God Himself.

  9. Thanks for the clarity of thought that the Lord has brought through your diligent search of scripture….I feel it is sorrowful that the ignorance is not only apparent in those who are blinded by the world the flesh and the devil as they seek to set themselves upon the throne of God with these false teachings abounding today …but they also do not even bother to spell check…such is our present state of break down in literacy . Accepting lies seems to go hand in hand with a lazy approach to learning and acquiring of knowledge. Do you see this as another form of Gnosticism’s rise in ‘church’?

    • Various forms of Gnosticism will always be seeping into the church – just as it is with other forms of error. Even trusting in traditionalism is a form of false worship. I know many mainstream denominational churches that will fight for traditions not found in the Bible while missing the message of truth. Yet we overcome error by presenting truth. The more you present truth, the more you will be drawn out of error, the more others will be drawn out of error, and the more those who focus on something other than Christ will view you as a threat. We all are capable of getting distracted, but the more we explore the depths of God, the clearer truth becomes.

      • Amen! refreshing to hear someone SAY it outloud!

I came to realize that it was NOT ME that was being rejected as I shared what I had to offer from the Word but it was the WORD that offends if people are offended….for a long while I felt the rejections were me …but now I know it was the Word …just as Jesus Christ told us …

Matt 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

        and…

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

        44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

It explains a lot , when we are not being ‘jerks’ but seeming to do all things according to His Word as well as we know to do …and offer the Word of GOD …that some will revile, mock and reject the ‘messenger’ …just as when Jesus Christ’s life ,being perfect , convicted those who did not want to have Him around as a ‘contrast’ to their lives….if we love the Lord , we will love the Word for not just the ‘feel good ‘ but for the corrections which we know are useful to help us ‘see’ all that is good by His standards….as well as helpful to keep us from being deceived [!] by our own flesh as well as the world ….and we may avoid a lot of unnecessary difficulty …

So far …I am glad I know where I may find godly correction from my Lord! Hard as it may to endure and receive it at times…God always has the loving way for us to walk through this dark world.

Thank you for your most encouraging blog!

  10. Thank you this helped so much in understanding what people are talking about I just had someone comment on some scripture I posted and he said ” Jesus said we are like God’s” all I had to say was I’m confused can you explain this to me and he did and its got a lot of words and science stuff so he thinks and I feel like God led me to this to uphold the truth so thank you =)

  11. My daughter believes that she will become a God after she passes over. I tried to correct her on that but to no avail. Can you help me with this?

    • I have found that trying to disprove people’s belief is a difficult way to reach them. It is the truth that dispels the lie. Try to find a way to share the reality of Christ as you pray for the Holy Spirit to draw her heart. Keep in mind that the Bible says that it is the love of God that draws is to repentance.

      • Wow, Eddie, I agree with everything you say, people do not realize that we shall not even take the name of the Lord our God in vain, for the Lord will not hold guiltless who takes His name in vain. This is how Holy He is in His identity. And man’s foolishness sounds to the skies how someone can think he is God..

    • If she becomes god, where is she going to exist? She’s presupposing time, space, and matter. But all those things were created by God, including her. Outside this universe is God. There can not be 2 gods because where the other one would be. One god would have to create place for the other god and that would make the second god dependent of the first god and therefore not a god.
She can enjoy father father relationship like Jesus and God have by accepting Jesus sacrifice on the cross.

  12. Here is how I understand this debate/argument:
I think this discussion involves two revelatory thoughts to the pagan world that are a part of the same story. These thoughts are congruent yet not the same given pagan man’s understandings of who God was and who they were.

The initial/first is a very immature understanding/misunderstanding of the world, who we are and who God is. It is about the transformation from polytheism to monotheism. God is transforming Israel’s understanding. The fruit produced is religion that is impotent to create life. He met with them where they were at.

The second/later is about the revelation of us becoming who we were created for – understanding who we really are. The fruit produced is transformation to life.

Understanding the polytheistic context of that world is very important to understanding why the two different thoughts are being mixed in current discussions. Israel (Northern and Southern Kingdom prophets included) was growing out of a polytheistic world toward a reality and understanding of there being only one true God. Moving forward several thousand years we see Jesus’ response in John 10 as a part of the transition from the immature thought to the life giving revelation. The former thought was the Pharisees point of reference. He met with them where they were at to help them transition to the later.

    • The initial immature thought was a revelation that there is only ONE Creator – ONE God, and that all the polytheistic world was a farce. (analogy – like a child growing into the understanding that there is not a magical Santa Claus that is hundreds of years old.) – WHO HE IS AND WE ARE NOT, WITH HIM. WE ARE NOT a god.
    • The second thought is one of a much greater revelation – of who we really are. (analogy – child matures and comes to understanding that Christmas is about receiving the gift of life. Not about receiving toys from a really old fat guy in a red suit.) – WHO HE IS AND WE ARE, WITH HIM. WE ARE GOD.

The author of this article seems to be stating an argument mixing the two different thoughts (He is using the former to explain the later, which is backwards. Only the later can explain the former). His argument is one that is distracted by polytheism (which is not what we are talking about) – meaning he is highlighting “God’s” refutation in the passages listed of there not being any other God besides Him. The scriptures state God making His case that no one is God besides Him. This is the argument that there is no other God outside of God Himself, which is not the point of the debate/argument.

What we have been talking about is a completely different matter – being God within the context of God, not outside Him. The reality that we are Gods is only a recognition of the reality of who we are in/with Him and Him in us. We are not a God separate from Him or in contrast/conflict/rivalry with Him. We are God, because we are ONE with Him. We are God when He is in us. This is the ultimate expression of LIKENESS with Him, yet His unique expression of Himself in us still maintains our OTHERNESS. We are original because of Him, not because we are separate from Him.

He became us so we could become Him. We are ONE. The mystery is Christ in us. Jesus came to reveal Himself, and in doing so He subverted man’s perspective of the One True God. Jesus was God in the flesh. He was more an example of us, than an example for us. Religion (Protestant Christianity included – which I myself am) often fosters the idea that we can follow God and

Why do we work so hard to BECOME something we are not, when He is inviting us to BE who we really are with Him. We are His Temple. We are His home. If the God of the universe desires to actually live in us (not just a metaphor), and we accept His invitation – what does that make us? We are His unique expression of Himself. In that sense we are God. Not a god in rebellion to Him, but his creation being ONE with HIM.

Throughout scripture God is revealing to us that he does not require or desire our sacrifice/s. Did you ever wonder who needed the sacrificial system given to Israel? Man or God? God’s love and redemption is not a transaction that He exchanges for something we offer Him. It is a gift that we do not deserve. As He is also just and forgiving, I do not believe neither his justice or forgiveness required anything from us.

The Bible in all its transparency reveals God as deity that does not force Himself on us, but instead pursues us – waits on us to yield ourselves to receive His love and in doing so become who He created us to be. Religion (in the negative sense) is a counterfeit and distraction that keeps our relative reality from lining up with God’s reality of who we are. The body of Christ (His Bride) is a very important part of us becoming God’s expression of Himself in us. Christianity as a religious institution has fostered a form of slavery, keeping His Bride from truly being free.

  13. Why was the word “gods” chosen. Why couldn’t God just choose a different word to avoid confusion?

I feel it gives leverage to the argument against God not being a god of confusion.

Things like these make me a bit frustrated with God.

  14. man treating themselves as gods as only corrupted them ,making them subject to no rule or religion but freewill of doing whatever they please
man as god there is no sin
man as god ,worship no one
man as god as even given rise to oppression of others
and even challenging the true god himself

  15. I don’t care aho says what about anything in Scripture. There are two statements made by Jesus Himself that are NOT open to interpretation.
1 “No one comes to the Father except through the Son”
2 “The Son of Man will sit on HIS throne until all His enemies are made His footstool”
There no equivocation or interpretation allowed about Jesus’ superiority over us. HE will rule sith a rod of Iron. HE will come to gather HIS flock. HE Sacrificed Himself to Save us. He was perfect in every respect. HE is THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD.
As it was stated before by others in here, this ‘adaptation’ of scripture is a deception to deceive believers into turning from the Path of love and humility that Jesus taught. We are to be bold only in the Spirit and pursue the Word with dedication, reflection, discernment, and eagerness. We are to be meek in life except when speaking the Word.
We cannot Speak the truth on our own but, must ask for, and submit to The Holy Spirit to give us the Words to speak.
“For when you are called before men to testify, prepare not vain words, neither give concern to what you will say, for it will be given you by The Holy Spirit.”
Even one of these sayings, alone, precludes any human ascension to any form of ‘godhood’ for, what ‘god’ has need of appointment, permission, allotment, assignment, or an allowance?
But, when all are taken together, there is no question that, though we are made in God’s Image, this in no wise indicates that we are a power independant of Him.
For, what ‘god’ requires faith in a greater God to acquire power, much less Power?
Jesus said, ” Verily I say unto you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you will be able to say to the mountain, ‘move’, and it sill be done.”
This faith is faith in the Power of God, not in our own divinity.
John 3:16 states, ” For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but, shall have everlasting Life.”
What ‘god’ needs belief in another to live forever?
Deuteronomy 6:4 states, ” Hear, O Israel. The Lord our God is in me.”
What ‘god’ needs another God to dwell in him?
John 10:30 states, ” I and my Father are One.”
What ‘god’ has need of a Father?
In Isaiah 43:11, God says(with no margin for error), ” I, even I, Am The Lord Thy God, and beside Me there is no other.”
    Needs no question or explanation.
And, lastly, Isaiah 45:23 says(also with no margin for error), ” I have sworn, by Myself. The Word has gone out of My mouth in Righteousness, and shall not return, that unto Me EVERY KNEE shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”
What ‘god’ shall bow before a Greater? By what Greater shall a ‘god’ swear?
Incidentally, (all Glory to the Most High) while I was typing this, my kids were bringing boxes in from the truck to be gone through, and they brought a paper to my wife that was written by my father-in-law (God rest his soul) ,and contained the last 4 verses that I just quoted,( coincidentally? yea right) and pertained precisely to what this discussion is about.
If that is not a message from our Loving Creator, I don’t know what is…
    Amen.
God Bless you and Keep you.
